Our successful campaign
The Southern Maltings Group was formed in a bid to keep the whole building for the community. The ‘Keep Ware Creative’ campaign to turn the Southern Maltings into an ‘arts for all’ centre saw many residents showing their support by signing petitions and taking part in events. Ware Town Council, Hertford Regional College and celebrities such as Melvyn Bragg and Ant Anstead also gave their backing. After discussions with the Southern Maltings Group, East Herts Council agreed in early 2016 to support the creation of a new arts venue, signing over the building on a 30 year lease to Ware Arts Centre in December that year.
